In the ever-evolving landscape of leadership, inclusion, and women’s empowerment in Africa, few voices resonate with as much clarity, empathy, and purpose as Khethiwe Nkuna’s. A social impact leader, author, and the CEO of SkillQuest, Khethiwe is on a mission to reshape the way we think about leadership, inclusion, and the subtle dynamics that often go unspoken—especially among women.
With two decades of corporate experience under her belt, Khethiwe’s journey to founding SkillQuest was born out of a need for deeper purpose. “I spent over 20 years working in corporate, leading DEI, sustainability, and transformation work across Africa and beyond. But I started to feel a pull toward something more purpose-led,” she says.
That pull led to the creation of SkillQuest, a platform rooted in empathy and real-world learning, focused on helping organisations build communities and workplaces that work for everyone. “It’s not just about training or strategy,” she adds. “It’s about shifting the way we lead—for good.”
Opening Doors, Changing Minds
For Khethiwe, the most fulfilling part of building SkillQuest is seeing transformation take root. “Whether it’s an individual who finally feels seen in their workplace or a leader making more inclusive decisions—knowing that our work is opening doors and changing mindsets makes it all worth it.”
But the road hasn’t been without obstacles. As a woman entrepreneur in South Africa, she’s faced challenges ranging from being underestimated to navigating male-dominated networks. “Often, you’re the only woman in the room—and sometimes the youngest too. You’re constantly having to prove your worth,” she says.
Her response? “I’ve learned to lead with authenticity, to build community, and to stay anchored in purpose. You either build your own table or make enough noise until they make room at theirs.”
Rooted in Legacy
Khethiwe’s leadership style is deeply influenced by her late father. “He was a teacher, principal, and later a district manager—but it was the way he led that stayed with me. With integrity, purpose, and strength.” Every room she walks into, she says, is one where she carries his legacy forward.
Tear Her Down: The Book that Needed to be Written
On 31 July 2025, Khethiwe officially launches her debut book, Tear Her Down, at Exclusive Books Melrose Arch. The title alone hints at the book’s raw and fearless examination of a topic often whispered but rarely addressed: the silent erosion of sisterhood in professional spaces.
“This book unpacks the insecurity, scarcity, and silent competition that can exist between women in the workplace,” she explains. “It’s a personal project, rooted in lived experience—not just mine, but the stories of so many women who’ve gone through the same.”
The inspiration for the book came from a defining, painful moment. “I had just been appointed to a new leadership role. Instead of support, someone I trusted went behind my back and questioned whether I deserved it—not my skills, but me. It broke something in me. And I knew, then, that this silence had to be broken.”
From Silence to Healing
Writing the book wasn’t easy. “There were days when the emotions felt too raw, when I questioned whether I should just leave it all unsaid. But silence has never healed us.” With the support of her publisher, Faith Sithole of Fainom Publishers, Khethiwe pushed forward.
Tear Her Down is as much a call to action as it is a mirror. It’s for every woman who has felt betrayed, overlooked, or unsupported. But it’s also for leaders, allies, and anyone ready to build spaces where honesty, empathy, and accountability are the norm—not the exception.
What’s Next?
This book is only the beginning. Khethiwe has plans for a speaking tour during Women’s Month and beyond, and she’s already working on a follow-up book exploring what inclusive leadership and emotional safety look like in practice.
“I want to take these conversations into boardrooms, classrooms, and community spaces,” she says. “This isn’t just my story. It’s a collective one.”

A Book for Every Woman (and Ally)
Asked what she’d say to someone wondering if this book is for them, Khethiwe offers a simple but powerful answer:
“If you’ve ever sat in a meeting and felt unseen, if you’ve ever been hurt by someone you thought was on your side, or if you’ve questioned your place in a space you’ve worked hard to earn—this book is for you.”
Tear Her Down is not about blame. It’s about truth, healing, and rewriting the way we rise—as women, as leaders, and as communities.
