We spoke to Siseko Nontlahla, the founder of Siceqo Photography. We explored his journey as a photographer and got to learn of some of the secrets behind his successes within the photography industry.
What inspired you to get into photography?
The fear of missing out on important moments and events inspired me to get into photography. Shooting would be the only way to properly capture and lock in the moment. To be the one to capture the moments is very special.
What’s the most exciting event you’ve taken pictures for in the past?
Redbull SoundClash event between Focalistic & Sjava. The event was so much fun and the images I got to shoot were just amazing. I had a lot of fun as a photographer and as a patron at the same time.
What makes you stand out to potential clients?
I would say my personality, I can be witty and comedic which creates a comfortable atmosphere for myself and the client to work. The most comfortable clients create the best work because it’s genuine. The bonus is that, I form great relationships with clients because of it.
Can you share any success stories or notable projects that have helped elevate your career?
Shooting SA Fashion for the last three years has been an increasingly important part of my career. It works as a way for me to manage my progress. The platform allowed me to make a name for myself amongst the very influential individuals attending the shows.
What advice would you give to any aspiring photographers?
To aspiring photographers, I’d say, Keep shooting and never stop learning new ways to perfect your craft. Develop the skill and it’ll direct you towards the right direction. Being a successful photographer is not an overnight thing. You need to work.
How do you use social media to your advantage?
Social media is my superpower, it’s free to use so I try to upload as many times as I can to get my work out there. It’s also a great way to get feedback on your work and better the quality of the work as you gradually grow. I also love Social media because I can create a gallery of my work and I sometimes use that to showcase my work to potential clients and other people who are interested in seeing my work. I think everyone should be using social media for whatever trade they’re in.
