Multi-award-winning musician Shekhinah exited the stage of The Masked Singer South Africa on a high note last Saturday evening, shedding her secret identity as Doughnut in a dramatic unmasking.
In a show-stopping final performance, she belted out Rihanna’s iconic track “Pon de Replay,” leaving the detective panel gushing with praise. Shekhinah herself reflected on her journey with nostalgic fondness, saying, “Listen, it felt as if I was in primary school again. I enjoyed it so much. It felt like I was back in the theatre. Thank you for bringing me that nostalgia vibe.”
Leading up to her reveal, Shekhinah had dropped clues about her life’s turning points, mentioning how a couple’s adoption had rescued her and her friend Kyle Deutsch, the very friend who helped launch her career with the hit single “Back to The Beach.” She also candidly shared her past experience of being eliminated from the top 6 on Idols SA. Her departure comes as the competition reaches a fever pitch, with just six contestants—Tree, Elephant, Lollipop, Rhino, Fox, and Lion—remaining in the race for victory.
The previous week had witnessed Makhadzi’s unmasking as Sunflower, adding to the excitement of the unfolding revelations. The list of past unmasked participants included Zozibini Tunzi as Robot, Devi Sankaree Govender as Watermelon, Mmusi Maimane as Warrior, David Kau as Hippo, Bongani Bingwa as Banana, Doctor Khumalo as Soccer Ball, Victor Matfield as Rooster, and The Lazy Makoti as Zebra.
For those eagerly anticipating the next episodes, The Masked Singer South Africa airs on Saturdays at 18:30 on S 3 and at 20:00 on SABC 1. There’s also an additional chance to catch the excitement with a repeat broadcast on Thursdays at 21:00 on SABC 1.
