South African musician Lira, who suffered a stroke in Germany in April 2022, is making a remarkable comeback to the limelight. Despite being diagnosed with aphasia, a communication disorder affecting speech and comprehension, Lira has made significant progress in her recovery. While she still faces speech challenges and hasn’t fully returned to the stage, she can now construct sentences and speak.

Lira’s latest milestone was at the RMB Starlight Classics event held at the Country Club Johannesburg in Auckland Park. During the event, she publicly sang for the first time since her stroke. In a heartwarming moment captured on social media, co-host Katlego Maboe guided Lira from the audience to the stage, where they joined performers Sunnyboy Dladla and Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha.

These talented artists invited Lira to recreate a previous performance they had done in Cape Town, and she graciously accepted. Her performance earned a well-deserved standing ovation. Lira also shared on her social media that singing has played a crucial role in improving her speech, helping her regain her voice.
